Weekly Note

First Grade Weekly Note     January 3, 2018
Christ Light We talked about how Jesus provides for our bodily needs (food, clothing, family
…) and spiritual needs (faith, Bible, heaven).

Penguin Unit Mrs. Parsons and I are tag teaming to do a two day study of penguins. We
combined the groups. Today we discussed what the southern hemisphere and equator are.
All penguins live in the southern hemisphere (except for those in zoos). We also read about
the different kinds of penguins. Tomorrow, Mrs. Parsons will talk about the penguins’ way of
life. Check out our Penguin poetry, too.

Report Cards will be sent home tomorrow.  I also sent home a LOT OF important papers!
Take a moment to peek at your child’s work. The numbers may be a bit harder to understand
than letter grades. Think about 4: Mastery, 3: Proficient, 2: Fair, 1: Poor. If you have more
questions, please call or email. I look forward to a fabulous second semester!

January Calendar is being sent home. Here are some dates to note.
Jan 16: 1st grade field trip to sing at the Woodlands (noon-12:45), then swimming at the
YMCA (1:00-2:15). We will eat our normal lunch at school.
Visit Faith Day Jan 25
  • 12:30 1st Grade Jump Rope Show in the gym! Let us show you all the skills we
  • have been working on.
  • 1:00 1st Grade Annual Spingle Spangle Talent Show
Your child may choose a talent to perform that day. The talent may be piano, jump rope,
singing, cooking demonstrations, reading of a book, poems or jokes, showing/telling a hobby,
or another great idea. Your child will prepare this at home so it is a surprise to us that day.
We will do this in the Sunrise Room with the whole grade. Two minute time limit. May work
with a partner.
This is also the 100th Day of School. We will celebrate this a little bit in the morning. :)

Coins Some students took their bag of 10 dimes and 10 pennies home. We were not done. Please send them back to school. Thanks. Ask your child.
