First Grade Weekly Note April 22, 2021 Christ Light- Ask about the “Don’t Tell” illustration in Christ Light. May we be the opposite and GO and TELL everyone the good news of who Jesus is and what he has done for us!!! Tonight is examination and Sunday is Confirmation. Blessings to our 8th graders as they confess their faith and make their promise to stay connected to Christ. Hymn of the Week: Jesus, Shepherd of the Sheep 436 Read-a-loud- This week we are reading Kevin Henkes books. Ask about “Owen,” or “Weekend with Wendell.,” or “Chrysanthemum.” Math stations: 1) Tangram puzzles 2) Moby max math 3) Domino Math 4) Play Skipbo! 5) Xtra Math (fact fluency) Xtra math is a fact fluency program. Each child works and progresses at their own pace. I do not start Xtra Math until later in the year because I want kids to have a pretty good grasp of their facts so they are less likely to just guess. I will give you the code to access this site at home. 10 minutes a day is plenty so he/she does not start random guessing. Students will progress from addition facts, to subtraction facts to multiplication facts. CONGRATS Mady for already accomplishing addition! IE 1) Listen to “Weekend with Wendell” and respond in journal 2) Digital book reports on Seesaw with Mrs. W 3) Read leveled books 4) Read “Lost Mitt” in Superkids. 5) Epic books Art and poetry Come and peek at our artwork and poetry in the hallways. First Grade Night is May 10th at 6:00. We will meet in the large commons to perform our readers’ theater and do a little bucket drumming. Plan on 1 hour. I know May is busy. If your child is unable to make it, please let me know ASAP. Your child will certainly practice and participate in the preparations even if I know they are unable to come. Shadow pictures Check out Seesaw for the shadow pictures. We are studying light in science this week and this is a fun activity to go along with that. I want a picture from every student. Many have already posted theirs. :) Great job. Digital book reports See the digital book reports on Seesaw, too.
