Weekly Note

First Grade Weekly Note
September 19, 2019
Christ Light- Abraham’s faith in God and his dependence on God were our lessons this week.
Our hymn of the week is “Jesus Sinners Does Receive.”
Christian Friendship Week- It has been a blessing to focus our attention on Friendship during our devotions this week. We are considering a Bible verse each day that relates to our theme of the day. Today is Being Grateful. 1 Thes 5:16 “Give thanks in all circumstances.” How can we display gratefulness with friends?

Reading Street- Our theme this week was “How do wild animals take care of their babies?” We read a literary nonfiction story, a fable about a fox and wrote a personal narrative about an experience we have had with an animal.
Amazing Words (vocabulary)- wild, canopy, screech, million, and observe.

The spelling test is tomorrow. The words are on the homework chart. Please help your child learn a few challenge words if she/he already knows the basic list of 10.

Science- First graders were all about apples on Wednesday! We looked at Mrs. W’s apple tree, cut them in half in math class, read apple poems, learned about the plant parts in science and of course tasted them! Today we studied leaves!

Reading Assessments A copy of your child’s reading assessment is being sent home today. We would like them to be reading at a level C or D at the beginning of the year. By the end of the year we want them at the level I and J. Our assessments are used to measure fluency and comprehension. We will continue to monitor each child’s progress through the year with these and other reading assessment tools. Please email or call with questions.

Math stations Each day we do math stations from 10:40-11:00. This week the stations are
  1. Fact work 2) Moby Max on the ipad 3) Domino math 4) Floor puzzles and 5) Piggy Bank Game.
