First Grade Weekly Note                  February 22, 2018

Next SPELLING TEST is Wednesday, Feb 28th.

Challenge words (optional)  quilt,  pioneer,  president,  drawing,  Dr. Seuss

Quilt Study We are reading a different children’s picture book with a quilt theme each day.  See the homework chart and ask about the stories, characters, problems and solutions.  I will dig deeper into the social studies/history themes, too.  We discussed Pioneer Life Wednesday and today after reading The Josefina Story Quilt Papa and the Pioneer Quilt.  Friday two guests are coming to show us a colorful, artistic collection of quilts they have made.  Dani Dins and her mother, Pat Zimmerman, both members of Faith, are going to be in class Friday at 2:10!  JOIN US if you would like.  The quilts are AMAZING!!!

Math stations  1) Make TEN with dotters (3+7, 2+8…)   2) Add two digit numbers  3) MobyMax Math on the ipad  4) Blokus (spatial reasoning).

Read Across America Day is next Friday, March 2!  Would you like to come in and read your favorite book or poem to the class?  We would love to have you.  I am going to try to get 3-4 volunteers.  :)  I will also be planning a few other special reading activities for the day, aka Dr. Seuss Day!
