First Grade Weekly Note
December 5, 2019
Christ Light- The first graders were completely fascinated by the story of Moses and the Israelites Crossing the Red Sea Wednesday, though I know they have heard it before. It is a wonderful story about God’s providence and rescue, a message that never gets old for us, either.
We are singing “Rejoice, Rejoice Believers” as our hymn of the week.
TODAY- we had our first whole school Christmas service practice. Hooray!
Reading Street- Our theme this week in reading is “How is an insect community like a community of people?” The Amazing Words (vocabulary) we studied are teeter, shuffle, growth, population, crooked, makeshift and spindly. Ask about our class read-a-loud “Mr. George Baker,” about a 100 year-old man and his friendship with his neighbor boy and their zeal to learn to read.
The spelling test is tomorrow. We are practicing words that end with -y pronounced long i (try) or long e (lucky).
English/Writing I hope you were able to take a peek at your child’s Thanksgiving cinquain poem last Tuesday. They were adorable. We will do more! Today we started our study of verbs.

Gym- We have started our Jump Rope unit.
