First Grade Weekly Note                  August 24, 2017

We are off to a great start.  It has been fun to get to know your child better each day.  It warms my heart when I hear “I love first grade.”

Field Trip We will go to Bookworm Gardens on September 20th.  A note will come home later.

SHH!  It is Mr. H’s birthday on Saturday.  The first grade class will surprise him with a gift card to the Backyard Grill and a card.  Please send money in the envelope that is attached and return it tomorrow.  Even $1 is great.  No problem if you choose not to.  We want to show our appreciation for all his work this summer as he prepared for the new year!

Kids A-Z  This will be one of our apps in first grade.  I love it!  The kids read a digital story (fiction and non-fiction) and answer 5 question about the book.  The books and questions will become progressively harder as they become better readers.  You may use this app at home, too.  The paper to sign up is attached.  We will start soon in school, but you may get a jump start at home.

Christ Light  Thank you for signing your initials on the homework chart after the Bible story title to indicate that you read the story to your child.  Please read 1B Adam and Eve tonight.  We learned that story in class today.

Poetry Your child may read the poetry page to you tonight.  We have been practicing every day in school.  Tomorrow we will take that page out of the binder and keep it in our poetry folder.  At the end of the year we will have a lovely book of poems from the year.  Look for a new page on Monday.  Keep it in the binder all week.  Thanks.

Seesaw  I have already posted pictures to Seesaw.  A paper was sent home on Tuesday for you to sign up.  If you need more info, please email me.

Math  Tonight is the first night for math homework.  Your child should do side B and bring it to school in the morning.  We also started our math stations.  Ask about them  1) Pattern Blocks 2) The Ladybug Game 3) Base Ten blocks with Mrs. W 4) Assemble puzzles  5) Geoboards.

Have a terrific weekend!  In Christ,  Mrs. W
