It is week number two of school already.  How are things going for you?  Remember that I am happy to answer any questions.  Just get a hold of me after school or e-mail my school account.
     There are 19 eager learners in our classroom.  You have done a good job of getting them ready for first grade.  A few students are missing the First Grade Information page and some need to return the technology use form.  Check in your child's folder to see if he is one of those children.
     A Unit 1 spelling list was sent home last week.  The test will be next week Thursday, Sept. 4.  That should give you plenty of time to study the words.  Using the website SPELLING CITY can be a big help.  There is a link to it right here on our blog.
     Did you remember to have your child read his Book Buddy book and return it to school?  A new book will be sent home this week.  We are keeping track on a sticker sheet so that the children can earn prizes for books read.
     Fun and Fitness afternoon is this Friday.  You are welcome to bring your lawn chair and sit and watch your child compete.  The fun begins at about 12:30.  Hope to see you then.

Reading - Have your child read pp.5 - 16 "A Patch in a Pinch" with you.  Help where he needs it.  You could partner read if you like.  You might read a sentence...your child reads a sentence...you read...he reads...etc.  Find out how Cass and Sal fix their problems.
Math - Lesson 6B homework

WEDNESDAY:
Christ Light - Read "Jesus Heals the Official's Son" to your child.  Review the first part of the Fifth Commandment.

Reading - Has your child read and returned his Book Buddy?

FRIDAY:
Christ Light - Review CW478:1 with your child. (CW stands for our hymnal Christian Worship.) We will sing it together in class on Monday.

Hello First Grade Students and Parents!

     We're off!! The new school year begins!  Sure hope everyone got a good night's sleep on Monday.  Our fun, busy days are starting.
     The children often wear sandals to school in the warmer weather months.  Please be sure to send sturdier shoes with toes covered for recess times.  We don't need any stubbed toes!
     Some of you mentioned to me that you would be a reading helper on Mondays or Wednesdays.  Please send me a note if you would like to help.  I will set up a schedule.  Thank you for being willing to lend a hand. 
   The homework for the week is listed below.  If you have any questions pop in after school or give me a call. Please remember to send a packed lunch each day.  Hot lunch begins on September 1.

TUESDAY:

WEDNESDAY:
Christ Light - Read The Baptism of Jesus to your child.  Make use of the Parent Message. Help your child to review Psalm 119:105.  (We begin by saying the reference...Psalm one hundred nineteen verse one hundred five.)
Math - Lesson 2 side B  Make sure the work is completed neatly and correctly.  Return the math sheet by putting it back into your child's home folder and tucking it into his backpack.

THURSDAY:
Math:  Lesson 3 side B  Be sure your child returns the homework to school.

FRIDAY:
Reading - Unit 1 spelling words were sent home.  We will practice the words in class, but you need to practice at home too.  Try using Spelling City.  There is a link on our blog site.
Math - Lesson 4 side B.  The homework sheet needs to be returned to school on Monday.
