Wonderful Wednesday

Christ Light: We reviewed the story of the Workers in the Vineyard. I am blown away by the depth of understanding of God's Word these children show. My we continue to train them up in the Word and allow the Holy Spirit to strengthen their faith. We recited the 1st Article of the creed and reviewed the Trinity, too. 3 persons, 3 jobs, one God!

Spelling   Test on Wednesday, Feb 22nd       Unit 2
Pattern words: funnier,  sunnier,  easier,  happier,  happiest,  angriest, muddiest, easiest
Memory Words: their,  now,  always,  because,  been
Challenge (optional): quilt,  stickier,  music,  color,  Valentine’s Day.
I changed “drier” to color because I misspelled the word.  It should be “dryer.” Crazy English!

February is Heart Health Month The first graders and kindergartners have been working hard on their jump rope skills this winter.  This month, each student is polishing certain skills and working to earn a Jump Rope charm necklace.  The students are also doing partner and long rope jumping skills.

Minute-To-Win-It Valentine’s Day party was quite fun.  The students put some pictures in their 1st grade journal today.  I also posted some to SeeSaw and the blog.

Math This week we added telling time to the half hour.  Some kids are getting confused with the long (minute) and short (hour) hand.  Chat about it at home and practice.  We daily work on our math facts.  I have also started to include some deeper level questions each day as part of our Calendar Time.  The new stations this week are 1) ipads, 2) clock work with Mrs. G/M 3) fact work at the desk, 4) number sense with me.

A Quilt Unit in social studies has started today.  Each day I will read one of my favorite quilt stories and then include a history lesson with that book.  Today’s was “Luka’s Quilt” about a girl and her grandmother in Hawaii.  After the book we read and learned more about Hawaii.

African American History Month We are celebrating this by doing a little research and putting together a “quilt” on the wall outside our class.  Please help your child find some information about this person tonight and return it tomorrow.  Thank you!  The form is stapled to this note.
