First Day of School

Welcome back to school!  We had a GREAT first day.  Your children did very well with the new room, new teacher, new procedures, new desks, new books, and even a new friend.  Welcome Ryder!

We started our day in chapel.  Thank you, Mr.H, for the message about keeping our eyes on our Savior.  "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world."

We played three games to review names and to give Mrs. Monroe and Ryder the opportunity to learn names.  Ask about our chant "Up the Ladder."  We will do it more tomorrow so your child can soon share it with you.  We also played "I am ____________.  Who is __________?  Fun!  Finally, we wrote and read all the names in class to play Name Bingo.  See the paper in the binder. You may keep it.

We also read some Back to School Poems.  Those poems are in the binder.  Please leave them there.  Friday, I will collect the poems to make a Poetry Book during the whole year.

Our math introduction was "What do mathematicians do?"  Wow- we thought of lots.  Can't wait to get started.  I also introduced Math Meeting/Calendar Time.

I was excited about getting started with science.  Today we began our unit on "Being a Scientist."  We thought about our 5 senses and learning about the world through them.  Tomorrow we will discuss science tools.

The only homework tonight is to read (or have your child read) the library book he/she chose.  If it happens to be a long book (chapter book), just read a portion of it.  Your child should bring it back tomorrow and choose a new book.

Happy Birthday Eli!  Thanks for the chocolate chip cookies!  What a delicious way to start our year.

It is Mr. H's birthday on August 26th.  Shh!  First grade plans to surprise him with a poster and gift card to the Backyard Grill.  If you would like to contribute ($1 :) please send it back in the envelope.  Thanks.

I do not have Seesaw set up yet.  I will let you know when I get that done.  Thanks for your patience.

Headphones- if you have not sent them in, please do so.  Thanks.  We will start using them on Monday with the ipads.

Enjoy the pictures from today.
