Wednesday

We had a fun day in first grade.  Ask  about all these things!

Bible: Esau and Jacob.  Our  Memory Treasure erase game.  I Jn 1:7 was written in the binder lesson page.

Superkids:  We did more practice with "th" words and our question words (where, when, which, who, what and why).  Some kids are still having a hard time reading them.   Practice with the yellow flashcards.  My classroom aids have been having the kids spell the words with letter cubes.  Fun!

Math: 25 B  We also learned the Doubles Rap to review the doubles number sentences. (2+2=4)

Music and gym.  Today we used balloons and paddles to practice our "drop, strike, catch."

Please return the field trip permission form for Appleton.  I do have many chaperons, but there is room for a couple more.

TRACK MEET tonight at WLA.  First grade will run their race about 5:15.  What a nice evening to be out!

Tuesday

I am getting later by the day.  :(  I had  vb after school then internet trouble.  Most of my kids are already in bed, but I will post a few notes from our day anyway.

Bible:  We reviewed the story A Wife for  Isaac.   May we be bold, and confident in our prayers to our heavenly Father just as Abraham's servant was.  We also recited the Memory Treasure.  It was new and tough for me.  Time to get this young generation started on the new translation.

Reading: We did lots of work with our Memory (Sight) Words.  We reviewed the story.  I am so delighted that so many want to read for the class!  I am sure the upper grade teachers wish they had such enthusiasm when they ask for a student to read aloud.

Math: We made many shapes on our geoboards today.  Do lesson 24B tonight.

Science: We reviewed mammals and read about birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles!  THANK YOU Tegan for bringing in new insects, walking sticks.  Wow.

The kids took home a purple permission slip for our field trip to Appleton.  Sign and return with money.  Thanks.

Don't forget to send a bag of popcorn, pretzels, or party mix for Grand Day this Friday!

Monday!

Sorry for the late post.  I had a vb game after school then home to feed the kids.  My husband gets to go to the game tonight!!!  Go Packers!

Happy Birthday Eli.  Hope you are feeling better and can join us tomorrow.  Abigail, hope you are feeling better, too.

Bible: Read 6B and study the MT-  Heb 11:1  especially the first part!

Superkids:  Read the story "What Can I Get for a Nickel?"

Words of the Week:  We have some  tricky ones.  I noticed today many kids were unable to even read the words and by Friday we have to spell them.  Practice the flash cards  in the money pouch.  :)

Math:  We learned and practiced the "doubles" today.  23B due tomorrow.

Ask about balloon volleyball in gym.  :)  We did two reading groups at the end of the day.  The girls all played whiffle  ball at noon recess, too.  It is tricky to toss the ball (left handed) and hit (with right or both), but everyone is working on it.  I do not pitch.  I think the games go a bit faster this way.

Blessings,  Mrs. W

Friday!

Happy Friday!

We began our day in God's house.  Mr.  Rosenthal (Quintin's dad) led us in our devotion.  We  thanked God for our colorful world.  We enjoy creation's beauty as His precious children.  We  also watched the  WELS Connection (kids video).   The topic this month was on bullying and Jesus' First Miracle.

We practiced our spelling and writing and read and practiced our new words of the week.    Ask  about all the questions Doc asked in our workbook page.

We practiced ordinal numbers (1st-6th) in math.  Do Lesson 22B.

Most of the boys played whiffle ball at recess.  It is quite the popular game now.

This afternoon we had Art.  Shhh- we made a cute art project to hang in the hall for Grandparents' Day next Friday.  We also reviewed our Spanish colors with the game "I have _____.  Who has ____?  (Who is also a spelling word, so we got lots of practice reading it).

Have a fabulous  weekend.  Happy Birthday ELI on Sunday.

Thursday

We had a fabulous day in first grade.

The kids were a huge surprise and brought broad smiles to the residents at St. Frances Home.  We sang four songs and played our handbells in two different cafeterias during the breakfast hour. We also stopped by the activities room and sang for a smaller group there.  The kids also shared art work!  With our group of 24 beautiful singers I think many heard us real well, too.  See the pictures.

We went to WLA for the Koine concert, too.  The 6-7 piece band sang and played for just over an hour.  The gym was packed with WELS students from all over FdL.  How lovely to hear and sing more praises to our Savior.

This afternoon we did Superkids reading and writing and math.  Lesson 21B is homework.

A Weekly Note was sent home.

Blessings,  Mrs. W

Ava poses with Mrs. G, a member of our church.

Here is a video of our song, Arky, Arky.  I recorded in our last brief stop.  The other rooms had way more people!

Friday

We had a fabulous Friday.  We started our day in God's Word in chapel.  Pastor Weigand reminded us what a blessing our government is to provide safety, order and religious freedom so we can gather in peace and praise our Savior.

Show  N Tell was a huge hit.  It was fun to see and hear about our special possessions.  Some just "told" about their weekend.

We read "Ettabetta's Radish Patch" in our reading book.  It is our first poem in the book.  I had so many volunteers to read it in front of the class (all alone).  How proud I was to see these big readers!  The rest read it to a friend.

Math: Lesson 18  Divide in half.  We cut an apple in "half'" two different ways. Do Side B.

Spanish: We have begun to learn the Alphabet in Spanish.  We also learned a few body parts and started learning/singing Two Little Eyes (Mis Dos Ojitos).

Art: We drew and began painting lovely fall art pictures.

Field Trip next Thursday (9/24)!  We will leave school at 8:25 and go to the St. Francis Home (by the hospital) and sing about 10 minutes in three different cafeterias there during breakfast!  Then we will go to WLA for the Koine concert at 9:30 and return to school at 10:30.  I just confirmed the St. Francis trip later this afternoon, so I will send the permission slip home on Monday.  I can't wait to share God's Word in song and share your amazing children  and their adorable smiles!

Wonderful Wednesday

We have butterflies!  One  came out last night.  The other during reading class and another this afternoon.   We saw the crumpled wings and huge abdomen swelled with fluid.  They pump their wings to fill them with the fluid and strengthen them for flight.  Many kids shared their fruit to give them a snack.  We released one after school.  The other two hung on for dear life and were not quite ready to brave the windy day.  We have 4 more in a chrysalis.

Bible:  Please read 5A about Abraham and his promise of a son.  Prov 3:5 is the Memory Treasure.

Superkids: Please have your child read "A Patch in a Pinch."

Math: 16B

Have a wonderful evening!

We also read in small groups.

Math:  Test today, so no homework.  We did do math stations, too.

Science:  We went to the garden and dug out one of our sunflowers for close observation of the plant parts.  I also read Tops and Bottoms about a lazy Bear and tricky Hare.  Ask about it.

What a gorgeous day for  recess, too.

Our Art lesson was based on the work of Joan Miro!  Lines and shapes.

Happy Friday!
We started our day in God's Word.  Thank you, Mr. Zunker, for the devotion.  We have no reason to fear.  Our God hold's us by His righteous right arm.  We returned to class and reviewed our lesson on Abraham and recited our memory treasure.

Spanish:  We reviewed the colors and watched our favorite color song video.

Please return the school picture envelope, even if you choose not to order.  They are due next Thur.

Have a great weekend.  In Christ,  Mrs. Weigand

Tonight between 8:30 and 9:30 PM!

Our final caterpillar turned into a chrysalis.  This video covers about 1 hour of time.  Our God is amazing!

Wednesday

We started our day with our devotion by 8th grader McKenzie S.  We reviewed the Tower of Babel and talked about how our plan is not always God's (better) plan.  The kids said their MT,  too.

We did more reading, spelling and writing in Superkids.  This AM 12 of us had a golf lesson with Samantha Hoffmann's dad, Jeremiah H, a golf pro at Rolling Meadows.  THANK YOU for coming in and spending time with every class in school.  The rest of us will have a turn on Mon.

We had math this afternoon.  Do lesson 12 B at home.
We discussed living and nonliving things in science.  We kept a  very close eye on our caterpillar.  He is hanging in a J.  He will turn into a chrysalis any minute!

We ended our day with stations.  We  rotated to our final math station and started 1 of 4 reading stations.  During the upper graders FLEX period (Wed 1;45-2:45 elective) we get 4 students to join us for station work.  They are like big brothers and sisters.

Include in your prayers Ebrielle's brother, Jeb.  He is recovering from pneumonia that required a stay at Children's hospital over the weekend.  Also pray for Ebbie's (step) Dad, Ted Halbur.  He is battling a lung illness and now the meds have weakened his kidneys.  He has been hospitalized for several days.
The Piggy Bank game is a favorite spot in Math stations.  We are reviewing our coin counting!
Look at that form.  Good job Sam.  She nailed it, too!  Thanks Mr. Hoffmann!

We have 6 new chrysalises.  Our last caterpillar will be in a J soon.  See him on the top left?

Happy Birthday Mrs. Monroe.  Thank you for the yummy "dirt cup" treats!

We are back in action.  It was fun to hear about everyone's weekend.

Bible:  Read the Tower of Babel.  Memory Treasure for tomorrow is The First Article of the Apostle's Creed.  I believe in God the Father almighty, make of heaven and earth.

Superkids: Read pages 41-44 in the book tonight.

Math: Do lesson 11B

Ask about the alligator book I read.  We also read some pages in our Science book and began to think like scientists (compare, observe, predict, measure...).

Thursday

Happy Labor Day weekend!

It was an exciting day in our class. 4 of our caterpillars are in their "J," just about ready to turn into their chrysalis.  How cool!  See the pictures below.

We all made it successfully to our teams and through the 6 Fun and Fitness stations.  I  am grateful for the cloud cover.  It made it cooler.  My station was a long jump rope station.  My first graders held their own with the big kids in our two rope, criss-cross twirl and jump!  Way to go.

This morning we started the day with a review of Noah's Ark.  The "Arky Song" is a new class favorite.  We did a math game with a dice and our desk partner.  See your child's graph.  We also did math stations and some Superkids.

Have a wonderful weekend.  God bless as you rest in the Son!

We enjoyed a treat after Fun n Fitness.

See our new "J"s?

Notice the size difference.  The caterpillars eat and eat and grow and grow.

This was Wed night, before the J shape.  The kids noticed them attach themselves with a "button," too.

Wednesday

Today was an eventful day.

We started with morning work and our Bible lesson, Noah's Ark.  We will practice the Memory Treasure tomorrow.  We ran out of time because of School  Pictures.  Ask about the Noah's Ark song.
We did some writing and spelling on our wipe off boards.

Recess was steamy,  but we did not seem to mind.  During Math today we set up our private "office."  It is a big folder so we can work privately and we took our first math test!   I saw some great, independent work!  Our math stations are very well liked right now, too.

After lunch, we marked in the binders what color shirt we can wear tomorrow for our team.  (If you don't have that color, don't worry about it).  We will go into our mixed age teams for Fun and Fitness from 1 until 2:30.  Please come and enjoy watching the 6 stations!

Mrs. H had us for music and I took the class to my backyard (next door) for gym in the shade of my huge trees.  It was very pleasant for our beanbag toss game.

Finally, we ended the day with two speakers.  We learned the 10 Commandments of Kids Health from a trainer from TNT.  We also learned health tips from Katie McKormick, the head of Relay for Life in the region.

Our caterpillars are huge!  I expect some chrysalises by tomorrow am.

Have a wonderful evening.

English:  We did exercises in listening to directions.

Math:   We made towers with  cubes and ordered them from least to greatest.   We also did math stations  at the end of the day.

It was our first hot lunch today, too.  Exciting!

School Pictures tomorrow!
